About Aikwood Tower

Hogg used Aikwood as a location for several of his works. He places Michael Scott the Wizard in the tower there as the centrepiece of "The Three Perils of Man".
He also uses it as the home of Willie Scott, the heir of Harden before he was caught stealing Murray of Elibank's cattle and given the choice of marrying the youngest and ugliest of his three daughters or hanging the next morning. After some consideration, Willie chose Muckle-Moothed Meg as the lesser of the two evils.

However, he never regretted his choice, as Willie took Meg to the Forest so fair;
An they lived a most happy and social life;
The langer he kend her, he loed her the main, for a prudent, a virtuous and honourable wife.

Hogg " The Fray of Elibank"

So they all lived happily ever after.
