In the 18th century, Abbey Place is where the Jedburgh cattle market was held. Notice on your right the Carters’ Rest which was at one time the Jedburgh Grammar School until the new building on High Street was built in 1882. One of the more famous ex-pupils being Sir David Brewster who went on to become Principal of Edinburgh University.
