Helen Acklam’s richly textured mixed media pieces are rooted in the heritage of the Scottish islands and, for this exhibition, the layered histories of the Borders. Using materials sourced directly from the land from sand and peat to wallpaper salvaged from derelict cottages. Helen constructs deeply evocative works that carry the voice of the places they depict. Her pieces resonate with a sense of time, memory, and belonging, echoing the lives once lived in forgotten buildings and remote shores.

In contrast, Annie Green captures the fleeting beauty of the natural world in bold, expressive abstractions. Her work doesn’t seek to depict the landscape literally, but to channel the emotional essence of being within it the vast skies, shifting seas, and luminous horizons of East Lothian and beyond. Driven by colour and intuition, her paintings evolve into powerful reflections of experience, drawing the viewer into a shared sense of wonder and familiarity.
