Every effort has been made to verify the accuracy of the event information but we recommend contacting the event organisers before attending.

Step into a world where history and fashion intertwine for an unforgettable day of captivating stories. Join us for a journey through historic fashion, comparing the grandeur of royal regalia worn by Mary, Queen of Scots, to the fine attire worn by Jacobite supporter, and wife of the Mackintosh Clan Chief, “Colonel” Anne Mackintosh.

In the morning, you will be introduced to Mary, Queen of Scots, and her husband, James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell. Discover the secrets of royal fashion from Mary herself as you explore the opulent attire of a Queen in the sixteenth century.

After an engaging morning you will be treated to exclusive use of our café, as a delectable royal feast will be served, fit for a Queen – or King!

Then, the afternoon will begin where you will travel through time to 1745 and meet the Jacobite, ‘Colonel’ Anne Mackintosh. Delve into the fascinating world of eighteenth-century ladies’ wear, complete with Jacobite trimmings! Joining her will be the formidable General ‘Hangman’ Hawley – one of the Duke of Cumberland’s lieutenants and Commander-in-Chief in Scotland during the latter stages of the 1745/46 Jacobite campaign, including during the Battle of Culloden. But watch out, as these two don’t get on!

Following the talks, make the most of the day as your tickets allow you full access to explore the gallery for the remainder of the day. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore historical fashion – book your ticket today!
