Orionid Meteor Shower Viewing

date_range 21st October, 2023

Every effort has been made to verify the accuracy of the event information but we recommend contacting the event organisers before attending.

Join us over two weekends to witness the spectacular Orionid meteors and the partial lunar eclipse. Telescopes will be on hand, please feel free to bring your own. A presentation indoors, using the new GFAS 150 inch screen will be available should the weather not be on our side! Hot refreshments available.

Join us to witness the Orionid meteors. With a maximum rate of around 25 meteors per hour, the Orionid meteor shower, peaking around the night of 21st October, features fast meteors which can leave persistent trains which appear to have started out from the constellation Orion, but can be seen in all parts of the sky. Saturn will be very bright, nearly due south at around 9:30 pm near moonset. With the Moon in 2023 around First Quarter during the peak, conditions should be quite good to spot the Orionids.

From 8pm until 10pm.
