Every effort has been made to verify the accuracy of the event information but we recommend contacting the event organisers before attending.

The Melrose Sevens is the world's oldest rugby sevens tournament, held annually in Melrose, Scotland, since its inception in 1883. The event was conceived by local butcher Ned Haig and his employer David Sanderson as a fundraiser for the Melrose Rugby Club. The inaugural tournament was won by Melrose, defeating local rivals Gala in the final during extra time.

The tournament features a knockout format with teams playing seven-minute halves. This fast-paced structure has contributed to the sport's growing popularity.

Over the years, the Melrose Sevens has attracted teams from around the globe, including Japan, Hong Kong, Uruguay and South Africa, highlighting its international appeal. The tournament is also a key part of the Kings of the Sevens competition, a series of sevens tournaments held across the Scottish Borders.

In 2024, Shogun Rugby achieved a remarkable double victory by winning both the 1883 Centenary Cup and the Women's Tournament at the Melrose Sevens. Looking ahead, the 2025 Howden Melrose Sevens is scheduled for May 22nd to 25th.

The Melrose Sevens not only celebrates the rich history of rugby sevens but also continues to be a vibrant and internationally recognised event, drawing rugby enthusiasts from around the world to the Scottish Borders each year.
