Hawick Saxhorn Band – celebrating 170 years

date_range 17th May, 2025 - 28th July, 2025

Every effort has been made to verify the accuracy of the event information but we recommend contacting the event organisers before attending.

Since 1855 the Hawick Saxhorn Band has been an important part of town life, playing at the Common Riding, on historic occasions, entertaining the public and taking part in band competitions.

Now the only band in Scotland to have the word ‘Saxhorn’ in its name, this instrument was designed by Adolphe Sax - as was the saxophone. It resembles the modern baritone, which together with basses (tubas), trombones, euphoniums, tenor horns, flugel horns, cornets and percussion form the modern band.

The history of Hawick Saxhorn Band is captured through photographs, instruments, uniforms and memorabilia. Its achievements, key events and most importantly, its people, are celebrated in this fascinating display.
