Galashiels: Old Town, Mill Town, Your Town.

date_range 15th August, 2026

Every effort has been made to verify the accuracy of the event information but we recommend contacting the event organisers before attending.

Join local guide and storyteller Stewart Wilson (Tweed Valley Blogger) for a one‑off, pay what you like preview of a new walking tour exploring the layered history of Galashiels.

This special preview walk traces the town’s story in three acts:
Old Town: Discover the early burgh, its medieval roots, market cross and the traces of the original settlement still visible in the modern streetscape.
Mill Town: Step into the era that transformed Galashiels. Learn how water, wool and entrepreneurial ambition reshaped the town, built its fortune and created the civic landmarks that define Gala’s identity.
Your Town: Explore the Galashiels of today with regeneration, creativity, business resilience and the pride of a community continually reinventing itself. See how the past and present meet in the town’s architecture, public spaces and events.

This walk will appeal to locals, visitors or anyone curious about how a Scottish town evolves across centuries. It’s a relaxed, walking tour with plenty of chances to ask questions, share memories and see familiar streets in a new light.

As a preview event, this walk will helps shape the final version of a planned new tour for 2027. Your feedback, presence and support genuinely help bring this project to life. As a result its Pay What You Like, with no fixed ticket price - just use the donation function on Eventbrite to contribute whatever you feel.
