Borders Hillscapes an exhibition by artist Rob Smith

Rob Smith is a painter living and working in Coldstream. A former student of Duncan of Jordanstone Art College in Dundee, Rob’s studio in Coldstream is his ‘happy place’, where he can create and try to solve problems on canvas. Having run a successful business on Coldstream High Street for 47 years Rob embraced the opportunity of retirement to move full circle and get back to his studio and back on his bike in the Borders. Cycling through the Borders he is fascinated with the constant movement and changing light of his surrounding landscapes, through every season and weather condition, and tries to capture these fleeting glimpses in oil on canvas. As a cyclist this is something he cherishes and, as an artist, something much deeper which he tries to convey.
