Bloggers Discover Midlothian and the Borders

Over the month of September, we welcomed four bloggers from across Scotland and the North of England to Midlothian and the Scottish Borders. Check out what they discovered on their travels and how they fell in love with the place where Scotland starts.

Neil – Travels with a Kilt

History lover Neil and his trusted companion, golden retriever puppy Harris, embarked on a three-day tour filled with historic sights and ancient stories. 

Following the footsteps of the Knights Templar, he started off at Rosslyn Chapel, before paying a visit to the small village of Temple in Midlothian. In the Borders, the majestic Borders Abbeys awaited, and along the way Neil paid respects to the greats of Scottish history. From Robert the Bruce in Melrose, and William Wallace at Bemersyde, to Bonnie Prince Charlie at Traquair House.

Sonja – Migrating Miss

Discovering the family-friendly side of the area was the big focus of Sonja’s travels. She and her family spent two fun-filled days in the Borders, as well as several days out around Midlothian. 

From Fort Douglas at Restoration Yard, to the pet lambs at Jacksons at Jedburgh, there was lots to discover. Alpacas were walked, pizzas were made and butterflies spotted. The family can’t wait to plan another trip, soon.

Outdoor enthusiast Kate has seen lots of places in Scotland but Midlothian and the Borders are especially dear to her.
