Walking Route

Newmill from Teviothead

Walking

This is a hill route following old rights of way over Commonside Moor south of Hawick. The name Commonside suggests that there would have been common grazing rights for people in this parish at one time.

Below the hills at Teviothead Smithy Tom Jenkins, Britain’s first black schoolmaster, taught here from 1814-1818.

Teviothead lies 6 miles south-west of Hawick on the A7.
