New Luce to Mochrum

This is a long stretch of route with comparatively few places for refreshments : Glenluce has shops and cafes, as well as caravan parks.

If 21.5 miles seems too far, you may wish to split the walk in two, staying over at Glenluce before tackling the Machars, or going as far as Auchenmalg along the coast and staying the night there, before picking up the route into the heart of the Machars.

This section includes a wide variety of views and landscapes: through undulating roads to Glenluce, and then across dramatic moorland near the spectacular double tower house known as Old Place of Mochrum, followed by a cross country track ascending towards the village of Elrig, and then on minor roads, with some significant climbs and beautiful coastal views, before you arrive in Mochrum.

There are no shops in Mochrum, and an occasional bus service, but nearby Port William has a shop and café.
