Lauder to Longformacus

Walking Route

Lauder to Longformacus

Walking

This route is one of 12 sections of the Southern Upland Way. Leaving Lauder and passing by the dramatic Thirlestane Castle you will start to gain height.

You soon get the epic views that will be a feature of this part of the route. The lammermuirs are an area of heather moorland high enough to get amazing views but flat enough for the views to reach the horizon.

At the highest point of the day you will come to Twin Law Cairns. These two impressive constructed stone cairns are monuments to two warrior brothers. From here you will be able to see the lammemuirs, Eildon and Cheviot hills.

As you come down the other side the path skirts around the Watch Water Reservoir before getting to Longformacus. This is a very small village with no shops so be sure to carry what you need.
