Dive into the vibrant world of Bernat Klein, a visionary textile designer renowned for his obsession with colour and innovative techniques. This workshop celebrates Klein’s legacy, inviting participants to explore a creative process where we will develop handmade items through playful exploration of materials inspired by Klein’s designs.

Workshop Highlights:

Exploration of Klein’s Techniques: Learn about Klein’s groundbreaking methods, including space-dyeing, innovative materials and his approach to colour blending inspired by nature in his yarns, fabrics and prints

Hands-On Creativity: Engage in playful experimentation with colours, textures, and patterns to inspire discussion around making, craft and design.

Inspired by Nature: Draw inspiration from the Scottish landscapes that influenced Klein's work, incorporating dynamic colour palettes and organic forms into your designs.

Sustainability in Design: Discover how Klein’s ethos can inform contemporary practices in sustainable textile production.

Aimed at early career practitioners and small to medium enterprises practicing in the creative industries. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of Bernat Klein’s legacy and their own handmade creations inspired by his designs. This is an opportunity to connect with like-minded creatives and immerse yourself in the transformative power of materiality and play.

BKF Tutor - Lynsey Calder has worked as a textile designer/maker, researcher and educator. She has published in practice based research on a range of topics including Optical Patterns; The Perception of Optical Illusions on Body Shape; and 3-Dimensional Colour-changing Textiles for Costume. She is currently The Technical Manager for The School of Innovation and Technology at The Glasgow School of Art.
