A black and white photograph showing a veiled woman in a black dress standing in a mysterious Victorian interior. We cannot see her face or what she is holding, but her form casts a shadow on the floor., Careena Fenton
Ages 16+ with themes of death and the afterlife

Phantasmagorical is a supernatural spectacle of stories and magic, swirling with dark whimsy. Storytelling, drama, and magic combine to resonate long after the performance is over. Does Sylvia Sceptre have the gift of second sight or is it the Victorian affliction of hysteria? Is she half crazed by laudanum or a talented magician conjuring spirits? Whatever you decide, you will have an intriguing experience to remember.

This 60 minute show is engaging, fun and very different to a typical magic show. Phantasmagorical toured Edinburgh and Buxton Fringe Festivals and the London Horror Festival.

Hosted at Robert Smail's Printing Works, Innerleithen, a letterpress printer established in 1866 and now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.

Smail's is an atmospheric time-capsule of a Victorian stationer's and printers - including the uneven flooring and cold winters, so please dress appropriately.

We are also hosting: Victorian Spiritualism: a lecture, Friday 15 November 20.30-21.15 -- A presentation on the lives and activities of Spiritualism's most infamous women. These can also be booked via Eventbrite, or get in touch with us at smails@nts.org.uk for the link/ more info.
