Royal Burgh of Sanquhar Riding of the Marches

Annual Riding of the Marches, first recorded 1730, Cornet, Cornets Lass and Ensignalong with followers, over 150 horses set out on the Saturday to check the boundariesand report back to the provost, this is followed by crowning Sanquhar Queen the parade of decorated vehicle led by pipe bands, silver bandsand marching band’s head round the Royal Burgh, climax is massed bands along the narrow High Street.
