Robert Burns moved to Dumfriesshire in 1788 to take over Ellisland Farm before moving into Dumfries to work as an excise officer. Burns spent the last eight years of his life in Dumfries moving with his young expanding family, immersing himself in the local culture, frequented pubs (or Howff) that still stand today, and attending church every Sunday.

Dying at the tender age of 37 Burns’ still left his mark on the town of Dumfries and the surrounding area of Nithsdale. Learn about Robert Burns’ time in the town, exploring the landscape that Burns’ called home.

Join local guide Gerry for a FREE Burns Walking Tour. Gerry will show you around Dumfries so you can take in the town's history and Burns connections. You can either book ahead online or show up on the day.
