Langholm Common Riding

date_range 26th July, 2024

Every effort has been made to verify the accuracy of the event information but we recommend contacting the event organisers before attending.

Langholm Common Riding began in 1759 and the traditions carried out by Bauldy Beattie and the fathers of the Common Riding continue with as much determination in the modern day. Tradition is the backbone of the Common Riding. The morning’s events are carried out unchanged and epitomise the community’s love for their town and its beautiful surroundings. Horse Racing, Athletic games, Cumberland wrestling, and Highland Dancing fill the afternoon on the Castleholm. The closing ceremonies in the evening, when the streets are filled wall to wall, are a sight to behold and a fitting end to the most important day in the Langholm calendar.
