Discover the story of fashion, skill and creativity through the work of one remarkable dressmaker. 'Made by Mary Beck - Dressmaking through the Decades' showcases a collection of beautifully crafted garments by Mary Beck, tracing changes in style, fabric and fashion across the decades.

From elegant silhouettes to practical everyday wear, this exhibition reveals how dressmaking reflects social change, personal taste and the enduring traditions of skilled handcraft. Each piece offers a glimpse into a lifetime of making clothes that were both functional and fashionable, celebrating the artistry and care behind handmade outfits. Vintage hand sewing machines, dressmaking tools and fabrics will also be on display.

The exhibition will evolved throughout the season, with three planned changeovers, meaning there will always be something new to discover. The opening display focuses on work from the 1970s and 1980s and runs until mid-May. It will then transition to a Hawick Common Riding theme, featuring a Cornet's Lass Colour Bussing dress alongside an Acting Mother's outfit and Maids of Honour dresses. From August, the final phase of the exhibition will highlight amateur theatrical costumes and the last wedding dress of the season.
