This November, there are plenty of family friendly activities going on across the South of Scotland. Dumfries & Galloway and the Scottish Borders come alive with cosy creative events, live music and theatre, and the first glimmers of festive magic. Towards the end of the month, the Christmas spirit starts to creep in with historic houses decorated for the festive season, Christmas craft fairs offering the chance for local artisans to showcase their wares and giving you the opportunity to find that perfect present for your loved ones.

Here are just some of the events on this month – don’t forget to check out all November’s events here.

Art, Crafts & Creative Inspiration

Until the end of the month, the Hawick Art Club Annual Open Exhibition showcases decades of artistic excellence in the Scott Gallery, highlighting local talent and contemporary work alike. Also in Hawick, Forgotten Fleece Tales – A Scottish Touring Exhibition of Textile Arts celebrates the intersection of art, craft, storytelling and ecology through a curated collection of inspiring textile works from 8th November onwards.

Kickstart your Christmas shopping at the Makers Market, held at the Borders Textile Towerhouse in Hawick on 29th November. Browse handmade gifts, festive treats, and beautifully crafted items in a vibrant, seasonal atmosphere. This year’s market will feature work from a fantastic range of makers including textiles, jewellery, glassware.

Families can also enjoy Family Fridays at Abbotsford, the home of writer Sir Walter Scott, on 28th November. This month’s theme is ‘Symbols of Scotland’, a hands-on, creative afternoon exploring Scottish heritage through stories, crafts, and activities for all ages.

Live Music, Theatre & Interactive Experiences

November brings a diverse line-up of performances to the region.

For immersive storytelling and mystery, don’t miss The Secrets of Barrenbrook at a host of venues across this month. This interactive theatre experience blends storytelling and deduction, putting the audience at the heart of a village mystery. Inspired by games like Werewolf and BBC’s The Traitors, each performance is different, letting you shape the story as it unfolds.

Rock fans can catch The Darker My Horizon and Dox Docherty at The Vault Arts Centre on 1st November, while indie enthusiasts will love Candy Opera and Nathon Jones on the 28th of the month, bringing a vibrant mix of classic and contemporary sounds to this much-loved venue.

On 13th November, Dumfries hosts the Meat Load Tribute Heaven Can Wait, featuring powerhouse vocals in a show celebrating the legendary rock star, while comedy fans can head to Kelso for Stuart Mitchell: Tips Not Included on 22nd November. Mitchell is bringing his witty, high-energy show to Tait Hall.

Sports fans can head to A Night At The Darts on 29th November at Dumfries’ Loreburn Hall, featuring top darts players including Gary Anderson, Fallon Sherrock, Robert Thornton and more.

Fireworks & Outdoor Fun

Langholm lights up the night sky with Langholm’s Big Bang on 2nd November. The popular community bonfire and firework display takes place on the south side of the Castleholm, with food stalls, drinks, and entertainment. The event is free, though donations are welcomed to support the Muckle Toon Family Events group.

Wellness & Relaxation

Slow down before the festive season with a sauna session at Airhouses. Until April, their Nordic-inspired Wild Wellness area offers private sessions for up to four people — ideal for a quiet escape from the chilly weather.

Alternatively, head along to one of the community sauna sessions at Cedar Hus. The sauna changes location each month, and in November you can enjoy sessions overlooking the gardens of Monteviot House. Then finish your session with a refreshing dip in the River Teviot that runs through the estate.
