Senwick Hideaways: The Secret Studio

Total seclusion by your own wee lochan, with woodland walks to the sea, alpacas to meet and a cosy cabin complete with slipper tub and log burner to return to.

About Senwick Hideaways: The Secret Studio

Set in a quiet corner of a traditional Scottish livestock farm this is simply an incredible place to unwind and escape the everyday. Once you’ve walked down the track to where the cabin sits by the lochan, you’re in a world of your own, with only sheep and other wildlife for company. You can light the wood burner and nap in the rocking chair or on the sofa, soak in the slipper bath, or sit on the bank and let your cares drift away. If it’s been raining, a rippling waterfall will provide a the relaxing mood music for you stay.

Situated alongside the Scottish coastline the Secret Studio is a bright, airy space with an open-plan kitchen, bedroom and lounge area all filled with light and views of the countryside and starry skies thanks to lovely big windows and skylights. Even the slipper bath in the bathroom is next to a window, so you can soak and savour the peaceful vista or dark skies. Much of the furniture is custom made, as was the cabin itself, with a retro style that brings a dash of chic to the wilderness.

Within the studio there is a DAB radio, cards, games, jigsaws and books and even, as the name suggests, a dedicated studio space if you fancy a little yoga to relax or want to get creative, inspired by the nearby 'artists town' of Kirkcudbright. The kitchen has everything you need to whip a great meal or a quick snack, or there’s a campfire BBQ on which to cook supper or toast marshmallows under the stars. You could even try some of the farm’s own beef, lamb, chevron and eggs, order up breakfast supplies or treat yourself to a hamper of local cheese and chocolate.

Nestled against the beautiful Senwick Wood, you can walk through the trees to Senwick Bay, a wee beach and secret cave are waiting to be explored with otters and seals having been spotted along this stretch of coast. Even if you don’t venture that far, you’ll have a good chance of meeting the wildlife, as the lovingly managed land is the thriving home of badgers, deer, hares and red squirrels, while the woods are filled with songbirds and red kites, buzzards and sparrow hawks are common visitors. If you want a closer animal encounter, then ask owner Nicola about pitching in with lambing, a farm tour, or why not book an alpaca trek or private meet and greet from the studio with Nicolas adorable furry friends.

There’s also plenty to explore beyond the studio itself, with the galleries, shops and restaurants of Kirkcudbright (‘The Artists Town’) just 5 miles away. Explore the nearby foodie town of Castle Douglas or venture into Wigtown aka Scotlands 'Book Town' along with many ancient historical sites, ancient stone circles, castles, gardens and fine houses. For lovers of nature and the outdoor lifestyle there are miles of rugged coastline to explore, the Galloway hills and forrest park, the 7Staines mountain biking trails, sailing, fishing and country pursuits all within easy reach.
