About Newtongrange

Newtongrange, situated in Midlothian, lies around 9 mils outside of Edinburgh city centre. In the 1890’s it was Scotland's largest mining village having shafts over 1600 feet deep. With all mines closes now it is mainly a commuter town.

It is known for its annual Brass in the Park event which consists a weekend of live brass music. The town is also home to the radio station, 'Black Diamond FM’.

The Dead Tavern in Newtongrange is an example if a Gothenburg pub: a pub operating on there Gothenburg system in which the establishment is supposed to seem unwelcoming or unattractive to discourage drinking. The shareholders of the trust were to receive a maximum return of 5% annually and all other profits were to be used to benefit the local community.
