About Eskbank Railway Station

With the coming of the railway, prosperous merchants and professionals began to build themselves substantial villas in this lovely countryside away from the smog and bustle of Edinburgh. Eskbank is the archetypal leafy suburb with stone built villas set in what are now mature gardens full of exotic trees and shrubs. With the return of the railway, the modern visitor can enjoy many of the features that attracted the original residents; although the strawberry fields are gone, there are lovely walks through the parks at Dalkeith and Newbattle where very ancient trees abound. A new long distance path along the South Esk has been opened, and for the more energetic Route 1 national cycle path can take you on to great adventures.
