Butler’s Gait is a spacious one bedroom ground floor apartment for two people plus a four legged friend if you have one.
It is part of an old Manor House and lies in a wooded area just off the A75 near Glenwhan gardens. There are walks on the doorstep and you can pamper your dog with a groomers nearby. Deer and red squirrels can often be seen and the interior decor reflects the theme of deer. Look out for some beautiful birds too.
It boasts a log burner for you to curl up in front of in a large airy lounge. Bring your own Netflix to the apartment by using the smart TV. There is also super fast wi-fi. In the bedroom you will find a very comfy king size bed with luxurious bed linen. The whole apartment is very well equipped with everything you need from a coffee machine to a hairdryer. All linen is included. The bathroom has a bath and overhead shower.
It is the perfect place to celebrate special occasions and spend Christmas and New year.
The local area is a hidden gem as it is so reachable from England, Ireland or anywhere else in Scotland and has beautiful beaches, the Galloway forest and small villages and towns.
Nearby is Glenwhan gardens with Logan Botanical Gardens not far away. You could visit the Mull of Galloway which is Scotland’s most southerly point where you can climb the lighthouse and also eat in the Gallie Craig cafe whilst looking out at the most amazing views.
Port Logan fish pond is a must as you won’t see another place like it. Created by a blow hole formed sometime during the ice age, it is a tidal pool which enabled the Victorians to keep their fish for the table fresh.
Both the Mull of Galloway and Port Logan were used as locations for the 2018 film starring Gerard Butler, The Vanishing.
Portpatrick is another lovely coastal village with its quaint shops and cliff top walks. It is the start of the Southern Upland Way, easy for you to walk a little part of it. Look out for the cliff top Grand Designs house along the cliffs.
Stranraer is a very pretty town. Formerly the home of Stena Ferries to Ireland, it is now establishing itself as a great base for water sports having hosted the Skiffie world championships in 2019. It has a castle in the centre and a beautiful marina area as well as some interesting shops to visit.
If you fancy a change from the coast, head back inland to the Galloway forest.
There are 3 visitor centres and is home to the 7stanes mountain bike trail. It is also a dark sky park and not far away, on the edge of the forest in Dalmellington is an observatory.
Clatteringshaw loch is a great place to walk with tearooms on the side of loch for you to sample the incredible quality of food you can find in South West Scotland. Visit the red deer park and get up close to these iconic creatures.
