About Brunstane Railway Station

Brunstane is now a suburb of Edinburgh and it is only the street names and the layout that give hints of an older history as the estate for the 16th century Brunstane House. Shoppers will get off at Brunstane heading for the superstores and students will be making their way to Edinburgh College. But Brunstane is the station closest to Edinburgh’s seaside resort, Portobello, which developed in the eighteenth century as a prosperous industrial centre and a very fashionable summer retreat. Portobello was an independent burgh with its own provost and town council until it amalgamated with Edinburgh in 1896. Its safe sandy beach and long Promenade with plentiful local shops, cafés and hostelries ensure that it remains a popular leisure destination.
