Langholm: Textile Town Exhibition

date_range 4th February, 2025 - 9th February, 2025

Every effort has been made to verify the accuracy of the event information but we recommend contacting the event organisers before attending.

Join Creation Mill CIC to celebrate all things textiles from the past, the present and future, including art, history, technology and more. Our exhibition will run from Tuesday 4th February until Sunday 9th February where we will be holding screenings, tours and workshops to enjoy alongside the exhibition.

Creation Mill is based in Langholm, Scotland, a once bustling textiles industry town. In its heyday in the 19th Century, it boasted over 15 working textile mills, producing high quality, sought after tweed and woollen fabrics. Over the years the town has seen the demise of the industry, that once employed generations of families, to now only one power loom mill remains. Although the industry appears to the outside world to have fallen silent, it is far from it, with the local yarn dye house, FTS Dyers, and Drove Weavers, manufacturing fabrics for globally known designers such as Chanel, Balmain and Burberry it is very much still alive and growing, as well as a small collective of artisan makers producing and selling unique products worldwide.

Our Scrap Store will also be open throughout the exhibition, which is stocked with donations from the textile industry and local individuals, saving usable fabrics, haberdashery and patterns from going to landfill, alongside our gift shop which will be stocked with items made by Creation Mill Makers and local Artisans.

Take a look at our website where you can book to attend the screenings, tours and workshops and to find out what Creation Mill is all about.

We will be celebrating local textiles thanks to funding from the Dumfries and Galloway Council Cultural Fund.
