Dandie Dinmont Terriers are back in Selkirk on Saturday, July 23rd as part of their 4-day festival in the Scottish Borders. Meet this historic breed of dog in the town then later, at The Haining Selkirk, the birthplace of "Old Ginger" the breeds "modern-day" founding father, born in 1842 and commemorated with a bronze statue by the Queen's Sculptor in Ordinary for Scotland, Alexander Stoddart.
The Dandie Dinmont is the only breed of dog to originate in the Scottish Borders and got its name from a character in a Sir Walter Scott novel.
